“Think in the morning. Act in the noon. Eat in the evening. Sleep in the night.”
– William Blake
We always find ourselves drowsy and tired during the day, especially on afternoons.
This is because we were not able to sleep properly the night before. Not having enough sleep will cause you to lose focus, have headaches throughout the day and feel sluggish at work.
Not having enough sleep will be detrimental for you, especially if you have a lot of crucial things to finish.
The best way to prepare for a long, gruelling day is by getting enough sleep at night. To be able to function well throughout the day, an average adult needs around seven to nine hours of proper shuteye every night.
However, many of us are unable to sleep that long. With your busy and hectic schedule, is that even possible?
Here are three things that you can do to be able to get the proper shuteye.
1. Avoid Sleeping in
Sleeping in is something that is very tempting to do, especially during weekends or when you have worked all throughout the night. However, doing so will not help you to achieve a proper sleeping pattern.
if there is a need for you to sleep during the day, try to wake up early and take a 15-20 minute nap when you feel very sleepy. You will be able to pay your “sleep debt” while doing so.
When you avoid sleeping in, you will be able to sleep at the right time and will be able to be productive in the next day.
2. Finish Your Work Early
It is always tempting to work on your backlogs during the night. You might think that it is best to finish off your tasks late at night, but what you do not realise is that you will lose sleep in the process.
To be able to achieve the recommended hours of sleep that is needed per night, you should make it a point to finish your work early. By doing so, you will be able to rest at the right time. Remember: You still have the next day to finish your tasks!
3. Make sure that your sleeping area is dark
Bright lights can interfere with your sleep and cause you to stay awake even late at night. Before you head to bed, turn off the lights. Your sleeping area will then be very conducive for sleep — no more need to count sheep!
By doing these things, you will be able to sleep properly, focus well on the things that you need to accomplish and have the presence of mind to solve problems and tackle obstacles. Being sluggish will not be part of your daily routine, and you will be able to be very productive during the day.
Smashing tasks will not be a problem for you because you will be equipped with the strongest weapon: sleep.
So, what are you waiting for? Put down that tablet and get some proper sleep!
